On the morning of the winter solstice, a snowflake drifts into Treekitty’s tree house window and lands on her little nose.
“Brrrrr. It’s cold today! The lake must be frozen so I won’t be able to go fishing today.” Treekitty climbs back into her warm, tiny bed.
……
Treekitty sits down with a frown, rubbing her flat belly with her paw.
“I’m so hungry…” There is nothing to eat except for the last dried swordfish and that was going to be Cloudbear’s Mid-winter present. Treekitty doesn’t want to eat it!
……
She walks down to the lake. The frozen lake is smooth and icy. As soon as she steps onto the ice, Treekitty slips and falls. She rubs her head and thinks about how she can make a hole in the ice.
……
She looks down at the swordfish in her bag.
“I should send this to Cloudbear as soon as possible!” Treekitty thinks, “I don’t trust that I can control myself and I might eat it!”
Treekitty takes the swordfish to Cloudbear.
When she arrives, she smells something wonderful wafting out of Cloudbear’s window. He has been working up a sweat making honey cake.
